Awake NY remains focused in its mission to explore, highlight, and endorse the culture and subcultures of New York City, and this Converse collab upholds this ethos by drawing inspiration from the skate and alternative music scenes of early '90s New York.
During this era, Converse reinvented the 1974 All Star, transforming it into the One Star, which rapidly gained favor as the preferred silhouette among those subcultures.
Angelo Baque, describing the collection's inspiration, says, "The One Star always connects back to the early '90s punk and alternative artists I really admired, whether it be Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, or the Beastie Boys — music that typically you wouldn't assume people from Richmond Hill, Queens, would listen to."
The One Star Pro embraces a palette of powder blue, black, and grey suede, each featuring Awake NY embroidery on the lateral quarter panel, intersecting the iconic star cutout. A high-gloss rubber midsole, featuring a heel badge and a prominent stripe, completes the look.
The One Star Pro enhances the OG One Star with a skate-centric Converse CONS rubber outsole and a molded CX insole. The collection also features co-branded hoodies, rugby shirts featuring an expansive star pattern on the back, and graphic tees.
